The fastest saloon of the 1960s. At the beginning of the 1960s, Giulio Alfieri began working on a completely new project. Inspired by the success of Maserati GranTurismo cars, the marque started considering a saloon. The new Quattroporte naturally had to offer the same level of elegance, refinement, power and performance as the other Trident products. With a top speed of 230 km/h, it was the fastest saloon of its era. The design was by Pietro Frua, inspired by the 5000 GT, while the bodies were built by Vignale. The car used a modern metal monocoque construction with box-section panels instead of the traditional tubular chassis, and the 4.2-litre V8 engine derived from the unit used in the 5000 GT. Famous Quattroporte owners included leading actors, directors and screenwriters from the history of cinema.
