Description
For sale ASHLEY 1172 SPORTS.
It is a barchetta from 1959, more unique than rare: Ashley had been a builder of bodywork and chassis for specials since 1958.
The Ashley 1172: Launched in August 1958, initially a removable top roadster, to fit Ford 8 and 10HP, 7-foot-6-inch (2.29 m) frame, wheelbase with Ford 1172 engine cc. from which the model took its name. 1172 was an engine built for Ford Anglia, with twin-barrel carburettors; 2 were open or closed body options. There was no roof available for the open version, so it was completely open, like a real "barchetta", not a convertible. The car in question has been restored to a very high level, very meticulous, note the degree of finish in the details, especially the rare 15-inch wheels, in Ballamy steel, with which this car is equipped. The basic Ashley 1172 bodyshell continued to be adapted and used by Reliant Automobiles of Tamworth for their 1960 Saber range.
The car has Engine n°: C884195 and Model n°: E93A. The car underwent a radical restoration, truly done in a workmanlike manner: it also took part in the most prestigious vintage events of its kind, such as Le mitiche sport a Bassano, the Aido Trophy, the Nuvolari Grand Prix, the Coppa d'Oro delle Dolomites, Circuito Di Avezzano and many others.
It is duly registered in BARCHETTA SPORT CORSA, with an Italian license plate, has a CSAI regularity FICHE and is ready for use: a truly connoisseur example of the genre.
