Description
Partial restyling for this sporting of 1976 epoch. New motor, revised in February 2018, body shop repainted with original color, enrolled ASI. The owner is ¨ still in possession of the English original plates.
To the beginning of the sixties to the Triumph they had in mind to produce a new model. There were not doubtful on the motorization and the loom (rigorously separated by the body shop), both derived by those of the small Herald. After the success of the Herald drawn almost by chance and in a beating of eye from Giovanni Michelotti, to the Triumph they decided of to still turn to the Turinese stylist to define the new spider.
Michelotti made a masterpiece and the prototype introduced in 1961 to the Earls Court in London received unanimous consents. From the technical point of view her car was rather traditional, with loom scatolato to which it came fixed the body shop, the suspensions were to 4 independent wheels, with triangles overlapped before and to oscillating arms behind, the manual change to 4 relationships and the anterior brakes to disk. The motor was the known 4 cylinders in line with camshafts side of 1147cm ³ of derivation Herald. Thanks to the feeding to 2 carburetors On, the maximum power grew to 63cv. For the new spider, whose production alone iniziis² in 1962, the was chosen name Spitfire, in honor of the fighters Supermarine Spitfire in endowment to the Royal Air Force.
In 1974, to compensate the lost power with the introduction of the Mk IV, the capacity was increased by 1296 to 1493 cm ³s and the power tornis² to 70cv on the version for Europe, while been subsequently going down to alone 55cv in varying USA (where, to respect the severe normative antipollution, the carburetor was adopted feeding single) and the was reduced relationship of compression. The only other changes concerned her/it painting in black opaque of the frame of the tail and the profiles on the back mudguards and the adoption, of series, of headrest. In the 1976 subis ¬ a light external change, with the writing spitfire 1500 printed directly on the two chests in substitution of the small nameplates, new colorations to the body shop were available and the motor beneficiis², in her European version, of a light increase of power of two cv bringing himself/herself/itself to 72 cv.
